Flaxseeds and Breast Cancer

Updated: Oct 26, 2018

It can be hard to believe in the power of plants and healing the body, but studies have shown that they equip the body to fight off diseases and illness better than many prescription medications. It is important to remember that I'm not telling anyone to get off of any prescribed drugs.

Ground flaxseeds have anti-cancer growth activity in female breast cells and also stop cancer from spreading to other organs in the body. Flaxseeds can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 20-30%.

Why do flaxseeds help in preventing cancer? There is an inflammatory molecule called IL-1 which helps tumors grow and spread. The body naturally has a cell that blocks IL-1 and is boosted when you eat flaxseeds. The flaxseeds can improve the body's ability to block IL-1 by 50%. Flaxseeds have been shown to help the body block IL-1 better than prescription drugs.

It is important to remember that flaxseeds cannot just reduce breast cancer risk alone. If you eat flaxseeds and then go eat McDonalds then you aren't truly helping your body to fight off IL-1. However, if you eat a plant-based diet that is nutrient dense, then the flaxseeds will be able to work with your body and give you IL-1 blocking benefits.
