How I Feed My Sweet Tooth

Just because I am a nutritional consultant and harp on eating healthy doesn't mean I don't crave something sweet from time to time. I try to feed my sweet tooth with healthy ingredients like organic cocoa, sweet dates, ripe bananas, and dark sweet cherries. I try to keep it as fresh as possible! So how do I get all of those things together? In a smoothie of course!

I love to have an afternoon smoothie following work outs, or even if I just need a little snack. It's always important to remember that you need a fiber anchor with a smoothie- kale or spinach. Here is my recipe for my favorite shake that indulges my sweet tooth but is jam packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, anti-oxidants, and immune boosting goodness! 

  • 1 tbsp of cocoa powder

  • 1/2 cup chopped kale

  • 1/4 cup of pitted dates

  • 1/2 cup of fresh blackberries or blueberries

  • 1/2 cup of frozen cherries

  • 2 tbsp of ground flaxseed

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

Blend that up and you will have a great afternoon treat that is feeding the needs of your body. If you love peanut butter and jelly take out the cocoa and replace it with 1 tbsp of peanut butter. If you love reeses then just add 1 tbsp of peanut butter to the smoothie!
