I gave up coffee after I had a stomach bug and couldn't keep it down. After that sickness my love affair with coffee was never the same again. I would get a matcha latte every so often and I decided to incorporate that into my mornings instead. I didn't realize the benefits of matcha until after I had started drinking it regularly.
But first, what is matcha? "Matcha Green Tea is the highest quality powdered green tea available. Made from the nutrient-rich young leaves picked from the tips of shade-grown Camellia sinensis plants, Matcha Green Tea is steamed, stemmed, and de-vined before being stone-ground into very fine powder. Matcha Green Tea powder is then stored away from light and oxygen in order to preserve its brilliant green color and antioxidant properties"- Natural Living Ideas.
Here is why matcha is a powerhouse:
It is a full serving of greens
High in antioxidants
It helps to fight cancer
High in amino acids that promote calm and heightened awareness
Increases brain function
Fortifies the immune system
Boosts HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol)
I make my own matcha lattes by combining almond milk, 1 tsp of powdered matcha, and 1 tbsp of maple syrup. You can put all of these things in a pot and whisk them up to a frothy green latte. Try to incorporate some matcha into your life and reap some health benefits!
