I love mulled wine during Christmas and especially on chilly nights. I was first introduced to mulled wine when I was in school at James Madison University. I brought the recipe home to Texas and now my family and friends love it.
1 bottle of a Pinot Noir, Syrah, or Zinfandel
1/2 cup of organic cane sugar
4 orange slices
4 cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp of mulling spices
In a small pot pour in the bottle of red wine. Then slice up the oranges and add them in. Then pour in the sugar. If you have an enclosed tea strainer add the mulling spices to it and drop it in the pot. If you don't have an enclosed tea strainer use a regular tea strainer and hold it over the top of the wine. Turn the heat on low and stir slowly. You don't want the wine to simmer or to cook, just to warm and have all the spices get mixed in.
Then pour the mulled wine into a mug with a cinnamon stick!
